Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Internship

The Northwoods Wildlife Center, a non-profit wildlife rehabilitation and education center located in Minocqua, Wisconsin, hires four spring, eight summer, and four fall interns each year.  Interns have the opportunity to work with injured and orphaned wildlife and help educate the public through guided Center tours, while supporting the daily operations of a non-profit organization.

Job Description

Interns will be involved in all phases of wildlife rehabilitation, including emergency care, daily feeding and cleaning, basic medical procedures, transports and releases.  This includes care of non-releasable animals kept at the Center for educational purposes.

Interns will also work with visitors who wish to tour the Center, help give short ecology programs at the Center and may assist in educational programs given at other locations.  Interns will also help in the development of further educational opportunities for the public.

Interns are provided with on-site housing and receive a $75 per week food stipend.  Interns should have their own transportation, but a vehicle is provided for all Center business.

Please note we are not able to allow pets due to the chances of diseases spreading and also in consideration of people who may have allergies.

Qualifications: Applicants should have a strong interest in wildlife and the environment, and a desire to increase public awareness through education.  Students in Biology, Wildlife Ecology, Pre-Vet, Environmental Education, and related fields are encouraged to apply.  Applicants must have at least one year of college experience at the time of application and be up to date on their tetanus shot.  Interns must also be able to work long days and in all weather; must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.

Internship Dates:

Spring Internship: April 1st-May 31st (with possibility of extension through summer)

Summer Internship: June 1st-August 31st (with possibility of extension through fall)

Fall Internship: September 1st-October 31st

Note: Start and end dates are somewhat flexible.
