Education & Captive Wildlife Managment Internship
The Northwoods Wildlife Center, a non-profit wildlife rehabilitation and education center located in the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin.
Job Description: Interns will gain experience in wildlife education and captive wildlife managment. This includes care of non-releasable animals kept at the Center for educational purposes and working with our glove-trained raptors. Interns will also observe wildlife rehabilitation, including rescues, emergency care, daily feeding and cleaning, rehabilitation, transports, and releases.
Interns will also work with visitors who wish to tour the Center, answer phone calls, help give short programs at the Center, and assist in programs given at other locations. Interns will also help in the development of further educational opportunities for the public.
Interns will help care for the permanent residents at the Center and may work with the glove-trained raptors as well.
Interns are provided with on-site housing and receive a $75 per week food stipend. Interns should have their own transportation, but a vehicle is provided for all Center business.
Please note we are not able to allow pets due to the chances of diseases spreading and also in consideration of people who may have allergies.
Qualifications: Applicants must have at least one year of college experience. Must be up to date on tetanus shot. Have a valid driver's license.
Applicants should have a strong interest in wildlife and the environment, and a desire to increase public awareness through education. Students in Biology, Wildlife Ecology, pre-Vet, Environmental Education, and related fields are encouraged to apply. Experience working with or handling wild or domestic animals a plus, but not required.
Internship Dates:
April 15th through May 31st for spring interns
June 1st through August 31st for summer interns
September 1st through October 31st for fall interns
